My New (& Improved?) Life

Posted by Lindsey Thu, 01 Jun 2006 21:08:00 GMT
I now live in a poorly-lit basement with ratty carpet and a desperate need of a paint job. It belongs to my grandmother, a 77-year-old with a zest for life but very little incentive to clean. My uncle, a bitter 50-something with an undying need to get laid by something other than a prostitute or his palm, lives there, too. Let's just say we all somehow deserve each other.

Matt and Scott helped me move Saturday, which was a total Godsend. I don't know how I would have done it otherwise. We only had 3 casualties, which occurred Monday night, with only Matt and me moving the final loads. First of all, Matt was carrying a bookcase down the stairs when he missed a step. In a way, his fall to solid concrete seemed almost graceful. As his life flashed before my eyes, he spun around, bookcase in arms, stepping 3 to 4 times before finally hitting the ground with surprisingly little noise. The top shelf to the case splintered off, exposing the jagged edges to nails and the processed interior of pressed board. It was left near the dumpster with a sigh of relief that Matt wasn't more badly injured. Afterwards, we grabbed a desk, a $40 Wal-Mart piece that has graced my presence for all of 6 months. As we carried it down the stairs, it fell apart, piece by piece. By the time we threw it in the dumpster, the only part fully intact was the small drawer. Lastly, I had found a really cute pair of sandal shoes while cleaning out my sister's room, and the straps to them slowly threaded away over the course of the evening. But, hey, we got free drinks at 1am. I now work at a small luxury and classic car dealership in St. Ann, Daniel Schmitt & Co.. I am their Assistant eBay Administrator and I spend the bulk of my day on a computer, updating their web site and their eBay auctions. I also do reception work. I'm enjoying it thus far.

I got my AFOQT scores back. I did better than most potential pilots on the pilot/navigational portion. I certainly blew the Verbal out of the water. Quantitative... yeah... not so good. My recruiter insists thay they're great scores, though. I have my physical on Wednesday morning and my interview is a week from Tuesday. I'm almost done!

Good luck in on the test. Even though I come from a Navy family, I wish you the best in the Air Force. Thank for your bio you sent me and linking me to this site. I was a pleasure meeting you. T

Very nice website. "I like what you've done with the place." Just think how we'll all look back on this stuff and laugh when we're big movie stars... david P.S. Still haven't found the thermometer.
